In prehistoric times, millions of Bison roamed North America. From Alaska, clear down to the grasslands of Mexico and all the way far east to the Appalachian Mountains. Their history intertwines with many Indigenous Tribes.
But by the late 1800's, European settlers pushing west reduced their numbers to a few hundred to near extinction.
At the time, a few concerned individuals started working with various Indigenous Tribes and the Department of the Interior to help bring the Bison population back.
