The northern cardinal is a bird in the genus Cardinalis, it is also known colloquially as the redbird, common cardinal, red cardinal or just cardinal.
Many people believe the sighting of a cardinal can be a sign of good luck, loyalty or even a spiritual message and to others, spotting a cheerful red cardinal means that their family member or friend is safe and happy, even if they are far away.
