When archaeologist excavated the ancient ruins of Hawikuh. They unearthed parrot remains from the site. This find tells us that our people made pilgrimages to the great waters and other sacred sites to trade or religiously obtain corals, shells and other organic materials.
A hand carved parrot from the tip of an Elk Antler. The eyes are inlaid with Gold Lip Mother of Pearl and Pen Shell. The red and blue lines are Pipestone and Lapis pigment inlaid into the antler. The shoulders and feathers are inlaid with Mediterranean Coral, Malachite, Lapis and Turquoise. The bale fixture on top is made of Sterling Silver pinned securely into the head of the Parrot.
