She is a celestial being, the wife to the Sun Father and the keeper of the calendar. She is the one who marks when certain events will take place.
The Zuni Moon Mother with a Gold Lip Mother of Pearl head dress inlaid with Mediterranean Coral and pigments of Pipe-Stone and Lapis. Her forehead is inlaid with natural Carico Lake Turquoise, Mediterranean Coral and interchanging Black Pen-Shell and Gold Lip Mother of Pearl boarders. Her eyes and cheeks are of Black Jet and Lapis pigments. The mouth is Mediterranean Coral. Her necklaces are inlaid of Mediterranean Coral. The back of her robe is inlaid with Mediterranean Coral, Kingman Turquoise, Lapis, Light Green Serpentine with Black Jet pigment. The stone to stone on the boarder of her robe consists of Black Pen-Shell, Kingman Turquoise, Mediterranean Coral, Carico Lake Turquoise and Orange Spiny Oyster Shell. The hem is inlaid with Orvil Jack Turquoise and Malachite with Black Jet pigment. The deer skin wraps are finished with Lapis pins and the soles of her moccasins are burnished for color and contrast.
This Museum Quality Moon Mother was entered in for judging at the 2023 SWAIA's 101st Santa Fe Indian Market and won 2nd Place in sculpture.
