Li'a:kwa (thee-ah-kwaah; Glottal L makes a hard THH sound) means the color Blue, Dowa (doh-wah) means Corn and E'lashdoki (eh-lash-doh-kee) refers to a young girl or maiden in the Zuni Language.

The Blue Corn Maiden represents the cardinal direction West. The color Blue represents Strength. She is imbued with the Purpose of Healing and the Power of Protection.

The Zuni Corn Maiden is a traditional carving of a female figure symbolizing Fertility, Abundance and life-giving sustenance. This figure represents powerful Feminine Energy that nurtures growth and manifests Blessings.

A traditional Zuni Corn Maiden carving wearing a traditional shawl. Pueblo women wear shawls for modesty and protection from the heat of the Sun.

She is hand carved from Elk Antler and her eyes are inlaid with Black Jet pigment & mouth is inlaid with red Mediterranean Coral.

Strands on her necklace are inlaid red Mediterranean Coral. Corn kernels are inlaid blue Lapis stones.

The shawl is designed with Star motifs of blue Lapis pigment and Dragonfly motifs of Red Pipestone pigment.

Patterns of Black Jet pigment are inlaid with blue Lapis stones, gold Mother of Pearl shell, red Mediterranean Coral and a lime green Serpentine stone. The fringe is burnished for contrast and to highlight the detail.
