No! Elf owls don't have anything to do with Christmas!
However, Elf Owls are the world's smallest owls and they are about the size of a sparrow. They live in the Southwest U.S. and Mexico in the deserts and woodlands. Like the Northern Pygmy owls, Elf owls nest in abandoned woodpecker holes of the saguaro cacti and trees. Unlike the Pygmy owls that hunt during the day, Elf owls hunt at night for insects and small prey. This migratory species faces threats of habitat loss due to development and water diversion, leading to population decline.
An Elf Owl carved of Elk Antler turns his head to scan the forest floor for insects with Golden Mother of Pearl and Black Pen Shell eyes. His sharp beak is inlaid with Black Pen Shell. The feathers, talons and head are burnished to give color and detail.
