There are five types/species of snapping turtles. These are the alligator snapping turtle, the common snapping turtle, the Suwannee snapping turtle, South American snapping turtle and the Central American snapping turtle. They are well known for their vicious bites.
The alligator snapping turtle is a large species of turtle in the family Chelydridae. It is native to freshwater habitats in the United States and is the largest freshwater species of turtle in North America. He is the heaviest in the world.

This alligator snapping turtle is hand carved of European Elk Antler, inlaid with eyes of Gold Lip Mother of Pearl and Lapis. The carapace is burnished on each spike that protects the turtle. The arms, legs, tail and skin are nicely detailed. Troy has carved two larger alligator snapping turtles and this third rendering is the first in a much smaller scale, but still has the same attention to detail.
