Northern Pygmy Owls are small owls found in forests. From British Columbia all the way to Mexico. They hunt by day, feeding on small mammals, insects and birds. They nest in tree cavities made by other birds like woodpeckers or snags of branches that have fallen off. They store extra food in hiding places for later consumption.
High up in a tree, a hand carved Elk Antler Pygmy Owl sits on a branch hunting. He looks forward with Golden Mother of Pearl and Black Pen Shell eyes. His Golden beak chatters as he focuses on his prey. Long streaks of Red Pipe Stone pigment camouflage his chest and burnished talons, feathers and head hide him well in the tree.
