Corn Maidens symbolizes Life, Fertility, and Prosperity. They are powerful spiritual figures embodying Mother Earth's Bounty and the nourishment needed for survival.
A Zuni Corn Maiden with ceremonial headdress hand carved of a single piece of Elk Antler. Her headdress and hair is perfectly incised. Her eyes are inlaid with Black Jet pigment and her mouth is inlaid with red Mediterranean Coral. Her necklace is highlighted with a single blue Lapis stone. Kernels of corn are inlaid with red Mediterranean Coral. Her shawl is inlaid with Red Pipestone stars. A geometric pattern is inlaid with Sleeping Beauty Turquoise and the fringe detailing is burnished for contrast.
