Lynx Rufus or Bobcat is a medium sized wild cat native to North America. They are also called wildcat, bay lynx or red lynx. They can be anywhere from gray to brown in color with black tufted ears and a distinctive black tipped, stubby tail. Bobcats are nocturnal hunters that are active during dawn and dusk.
Native American tribes respect bobcat for their courage, strength and the ability to adapt and survive. He is seen as stealthy, wisdom, power, independence and intuition.
Bobcat is one of Zuni's six directional healing, protection and hunting animals. He is associated with the direction of the South.
