A'la:ho the Shaman Frog represents the cardinal direction South, known to the Zuni as the Land of Everlasting Sunshine. Significant archaeological finds show that the prehistoric A:shiwi (Zuni People) regularly made pilgrimages to South America. Ceramics, parrot remains, coral, jade and sea shells are notable examples of material objects left behind by the ancient peoples that such remarkable expeditions took place.
The spiritual significance of these migrations was to invoke and bring back the bounty and blessings of the Rain Gods. These blessings include Health, Wealth and Life. The rain itself is seen as the purest form of Vitality. Coral that comes from the South represents the Waters of the World, Wealth and Beauty.
This tiny frog bears a great responsibility by using his prayer to Summon the Rain Gods. His burnished fur robe is detailed with ancient symbols of rain and fertility. He sports a stoic face with his detailed hands folded in prayer.
A'la:ho the Shaman Rain Frog is carved of a Deer Antler crown and inlaid with Mediterranean coral drops of assorted sizes. His curious eyes are inlaid Mother of Pearl and Black Pen Shell.
