Tens of millions of bison roamed the Great Plains before the Westward Expansion. By 1889 only 1,000 bison remained. Conservation efforts led by Teddy Roosevelt prevented the extinction of the American Bison. Today, the National Bison Association estimates there are an estimated 500,000 bison in North America.
This bison is carved of Moose Antler with eyes inlaid of Lapis. The horns are carved of natural Carico Lake Turquoise. The coat, hoofs and tail are burnished and show the wonderful detail.
Bison medicine symbolizes the endurance to overcome, great emotional courage and is the provider to all.
