Coyote the Hunting and Guardian Animal of the South
The ever-present trickster and teacher described in many Native American folklore, including the A:shiwi, finds himself unwittingly teaching Life Lessons through his own Misadventures and Shortcomings.
Here he is depicted as a traditional old style fetish. His body and tail is formed using natural breaks in the Elk antler with legs carved from Elk antler tips.
Each leg is secured with metal pins.
His eyes are inlaid with Sleeping Beauty Turquoise and his tongue is made with natural Mediterranean Coral secured with a Sterling Silver pin.
On his back sits a bundle of buckskin, Tulcum Heishe, vintage Cerillos Turquoise beads and a single bead of a natural Mediterranean Coral branch.
An homage to the Vintage Traditional Fetishes and the carver who made them.
