In Native culture there is a Sun Father, an Earth Mother, a Moon Mother. There are other numerous celestial beings. Here the artist depicts the Zuni Moon Mother, the Sun Father’s Wife. She is the one who marks when certain ceremonial doings will began. Her unique three half round celestial headdress or Tablita is inlaid with Kingman Turquoise and Pipe Stone pigment. A Gold Lip Mother of Pearl hand carved feather is wrapped in Sterling Silver and pinned in place atop her head. Her face is inlaid with Sugilite, Orange Spiny Oyster Shell, Gold Lip Mother of Pearl, Black Pen Shell, Mediterranean Coral and Blue Lapis pigment. The necklace consist of Mediterranean Coral, Lapis and Kingman Turquoise. She wears a bold celestial robe depicting her lunar cycles. In the center of the symbol are the heavens. Her ceremonial robe she is inlaid with Red/Orange Spiny Oyster Shell, Chinese Turquoise, Lapis, Gold Lip Mother of Pearl, Malachite and Pen Shell stone to stone boarder on the edge. In front of her manta she has Red Pipe Stone pigment triangle rain clouds with Malachite inlay. Bottom boarder has Lapis pigment with Mediterranean Coral inlay. Her moccasins have Lapis pins and burnished soles for color. She stands with her arms wrapped in her ceremonial robe ready to carry out her celestial duties.
